Embodied Practice

Because embodiment is about how we connect with our felt-sense experience, I’ve begun experimenting with practices designed to invite experiences of embodied connection to self, others and the world around us. How does the quality of our attention affect the quality of our presence, decisions and actions?

Activating poetic attention is a set of practices intended to weave the appreciation of beauty into our daily lives. It is an invitation to foreground our embodied and sensory perceptions of the world around us. These practices, in the form of short, daily prompts, invite us to consider our relationship with ourselves, others in community, and the land on which we are situated. Each prompt is unique. Below are a few of my favourites.

If you decide to try one (or more!), do enjoy the experience of diverting from linear paths of thought and diving into the beautiful chaos of creative expression.

Activating Poetic Attention - Daily Prompts Card Deck

Go outside and find a place where you can be still and un-disturbed with your eyes closed for 2 minutes. Notice the feeling of the air. After two minutes, write down what you noticed.

Identify someone or something around you that makes you feel inspired. Write a line of poetry to capture this feeling.

Today, write a short tribute to the land.
