2019 Mentor

In the spring of 2019, I joined the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation as a Mentor, supporting a cohort of 20 PhD scholars in their multi-year leadership development journey. The Trudeau Foundation encourages research, reflection and action in four issue areas including human rights, responsible citizenship, Canada and the world, and people and the natural environment. It grants doctoral scholarships, awards fellowship to distinguished academics, appoints mentors and holds public institutes for engaged leadership. The theme that guides the 2019 cohort of Scholars, Fellows and Mentors is Power and Knowledge.

Institutes of Engaged Leadership

The first Trudeau Foundation Institute of Engaged Leadership was held in Yellowknife, NWT. Here, I offered an embodied leadership session to the scholars and fellows. It was my first time in the North and among many highlights was our visit to the Dechinta Centre for research and learning - a land-based learning organization that provided an outstanding series of experiences built around Indigenous traditional knowledge and history. Another highlight was our tour of the Territorial Parliament - a consensus government system that functions in 11 official languages!

Cultivating Resilience

The pandemic brought new opportunities for transforming my embodied leadership practice into the online space. Together with Mentor Nadia Joe, we co-created a two part series for Trudeau Foundation’s adapted virtual leadership development programming called Spaces of Engaged Leadership. Our workshops focused on building connection and cultivating resilience through movement and storytelling.
